One of my favorite stories about the experience of God comes from an acquaintance who had a near-death experience. She had been ejected from her convertible, in a horrible car accident and was out-of-body watching a priest give her the last rites. She had the classic experience of traveling toward the light when she “saw” God, a luminous being in a long white robe with long white hair and a full beard. She remembered saying “My God, you look exactly like you do in all the pictures.” He replied “My dear, I look exactly the way you expect me to look.”
