                         MEMORIES OF THE FUTURE

“Consciousness precedes being, and not the other way around. For this reason, the salvation of this human world lies nowhere else than in the human heart, in the human power to reflect in human meekness and in human responsibility. Without a global revolution in the sphere of human consciousness, nothing will change for the better in the sphere of our being as humans, and the catastrophe towards which this world is headed – the ecological, social, demographic and general breakdown of civilization will be unavoidable.?

Vaclav Havel, president of the Czech Republic, speaking to
US Senate and Congress in February of 1990

This profound statement touches on the current conversation about “the field?. You’re hearing it in physics, in anthropology and in new age thought. It has reached, or is close to reaching, the hundredth monkey phenomenon (an early attempt to explain the field - Primatologists in the 1960’s found that monkeys on one island were teaching each other to wash their potatoes, and spontaneously at a certain point all of the monkeys on neighboring islands were also washing their potatoes ). Each field of study will have its own description of this phenomenon: Pierre Tielhard de Chardin spoke of the noosphere, a planetary thinking network (early 1900’s); Rupert Sheldrake speaks of proximity sense (the awareness of being stared at) and has written about animals who know when their owners are headed home, Peter Russell published The Global Brain in 1983, Carl Jung posited a collective unconscious, many athletes have had the experience of “being in the zone?, the Akashic Field is referenced by Deepak Chopra in his new book Life After Death, the ability of plants to communicate with us (see the work of Michaele Small-Wright and Jeremy Narby’s The Cosmic Serpent), the effect that thought has on water crystals has been documented by Masaru Emoto, and the earlier research by Clive Baxter on reactions of plants to thought (read Secret Lives of a Cell by Lewis Thomas – 1975), remote viewing used by the CIA and former KGB. The principle of synchronicity is dependent on the notion of a field. All of these writers, researchers and thinkers are speaking of variations on the theme of “All is One? or “It’s All Done With Mirrors?. You will find oodles of fascinating information by googling any of them. And there are many more.

It is the potential use of the field that Vaclav Havel is referencing in his statement to Congress. Information is always accessible. And it is vital that we “see? it. But in order to “see? certain things the hundredth monkey phenomenon needs to occur, and people need to be aware of their power to shift their line of sight (see Parallax). I’ve previously used the example of the world being verifiably flat. And until enough explorers returned with goods and tales from their travels everyone “knew? this to be true. Everyone also knew the sun rotated around the earth. Copernicus was held under house arrest for presenting a different hypothesis. Our current issue is global warming – we are at the “tipping point? of awareness on this one. Soon anyone who wants to deny the existence of global warming will be in the same category as those who deny the holocaust ever happened or who still believe the sun goes around the earth. I do believe it’s important that this issue seems to be permeating the field, one because we are indeed one with nature and two, nature is where we renew our bodies and our souls.

Mystics and sensitives tend to utilize a different part of their brain and they are the first to “see? the truth of a phenomenon as they live in the state of unity with all that is. They are often ridiculed and persecuted for challenging accepted thought. It can take scientists decades and longer to verify what the mystics and sensitives know. The title of this newsletter relates to the fact that a sensitive or psychic will see the future and it will seem obvious to them. But because science does not yet have the tools to verify what the mystic has seen most people want to deny it exists. Mystics/sensitives are especially dependent on nature and usually have a very hard time living in cities because they pick up the energy around them. The best description I’ve ever read about this state is in the book Shibumi by Trevanian (1975). The main character says the following: “When I am resting everything and I are one. I don’t become one with everything, I return to being one with everything. I am here as well as there. I depart but don’t leave…..There is neither time nor timelessness. One does not achieve it…one discovers it….one must pass through knowledge and arrive at simplicity.? In this state we have contact with everything that exists in what physicists call the non-local field. We have proximity sense. Heil can avoid being shot at or photographed by moving as the trigger or shutter is pulled.

Most animals have retained their proximity sense, their sense of being part of the whole. This is why you hear stories of elephants moving inland before the tsunami hit in Dec 2003, and of local villagers who went out to sea before the waves hit. They were saved by their proximity sense which they have retained in their non-technological, non-industrial world. People who live with a connection with nature “know? things that are lost in high technology communities. One of my favorite stories is of a futurist/consciousness worker who was in Africa living with and studying local people. She was amazed to see that African infants did not wear some type of protective clothing and that their mothers knew when to hold them away from their body so the infant could urinate. She asked one mother how she could know this; and the mother, taken aback, replied “How could you not know?? We also see this struggle of the western mind in Carlos Castaneda’s books, with his years of study with a yaqui shaman. These books are perfect reading for anyone who wants to open up to the reality of other ways of seeing and knowing.

Many people open to the field through the use of drugs despite obvious dangers. Aldous Huxley wrote the seminal Doors of Perception in the 60’s. There have been responsible researchers who have used hallucinogens like LSD and much of the research was done by the US government. John Lilly has written extensively about the mind-expanding use of LSD and of isolation tanks. I remember exiting a tank and literally seeing every vein in the leaves of trees a block away. Obviously that capacity is there at all times, but by stripping away all stimuli it was able to surface. The predictions that many of us make about the future come because we are more open to the field. Again, the things we see seem obvious to us. Creative people have always had greater access to the field. Jim Henson’s ideas for Sesame Street came to him in dreams. Bo Diddley, when asked about the origins of his creative sound, replied “Truthfully, I don’t know where it came from exactly. I just started playing it one day.? CBS’ 60 Minutes recently featured a 14 year old boy who has full symphonies show up in his head, which he then transcribes. Idiot Savants have always had access to a portion of the field.

One reason for hope is that we seem to be reaching the hundredth monkey phenomenon in terms of awareness of the ability of the mind to interact with what’s termed reality. Thought is informed by and informs the non-local field. And more and more people are thinking about retraining their brains. This is the next breakthrough in science/psychology. Many of you will be interested in reading a new book by Joseph Chilton Pearce called The Biology of Transcendence. He speaks of a new way of knowing which involves the connection of the heart and the brain. It’s possible that enough humans will wake up in time to see the impact they have on the field and on each other and to make the commitment to use the power of their thoughts with much greater awareness. The key is it must be done with heart. It cannot come from a place of polarity or we will truly do ourselves in. All my previous newsletters (archived on the website) have been dealing with this issue in one way or another. And I do sense a breakthrough is very close. We have movies like “What the Bleep? and “The Secret? which have made the information very available to popular culture. I hope you’ll explore the websites and books of some of the people I’ve referenced in the first paragraph. And there are many more. My apologies to the people I have neglected to mention.
